Arca is more than just a language school, we also aim to promote cultural exchange and help students learn more about Italian culture and society. Lessons are held in an ancient Palazzo in the historic centre of Bologna, which has been the home of the school since 1973. We offer students a friendly and welcoming atmosphere that will make learning Italian a pleasant and enjoyable experience. Small classes mean that teachers can get to know their students both as individuals and friends. The school has been officially recognised by the Italian Ministry of Education since 1985.
Our teaching is based on a communicative approach that provides students with the linguistic skills necessary to participate fully in the various social-professional situations they may find themselves in. The student plays an active role in the learning process, which involves individual work, group work and role-play. The teachers are all university graduates and qualified to teach Italian as a foreign language.
On the first day of the course students are given a short test to check their knowledge of Italian and are then placed in the group that best suits their needs. The levels used to indicate the groups are those of the Common European Framework (CEF).
The courses include various opportunities for students to sample the ample social and cultural life on offer in Bologna. The programme of these activities will be established by the teacher, depending on the students’ particular interests.
Since 2010 the school has also been a centre for the exams of the University for Foreigners in Perugia and offers special courses to prepare for the CELI exams.
